A Visit From Coach Amy & The Champ!

We've been in "Coach Amy withdrawal" these last few weeks as she's taken a break from coaching while entering her last month of the "Baby Woods WOD."  Those who were in the gym on Sunday for Barbell or Open Gym got a little treat - an appearance by Amy and her two assistants, Jack Riley and Dollie.  She was in such great spirits after seeing some Arena Ready faces that she already misses, and it was fun to have her in the house for a workout.

We also had a visit from our buddy (and an old friend of Amy's), Sarabeth Phillips.  Sarabeth is quite the weightlifting/GRID/CrossFit superstar, and it was a blast getting to watch her (and her awesome sister Melissa) workout with Coaches Sarah & Amy.

Sarabeth is the 2014 USA Weightlifting American Open Champion (58kg class), an all-star member of the New York Rhinos in the National Pro GRID League, and is an old school fire breather in the CrossFit world.  During her training at Arena Ready today we got to witness her hit an all-time PR on her clean & jerk during a qualifier workout for Wodapalooza... here she is with 240 lbs (remember she competes at 128 lbs in weightlifting)!!!  Wowzers!

WOD for 10-19-15:

Every 2 Minutes for 5 Rounds (10 Minutes):
1 Power Clean + 3 Push Presses
Climbing

-then-

"Betty"
5 Rounds for Time:
12 Push Presses @ 135/95 lbs
20 Box Jumps @ 24/20 in

Note that "push press" is the required movement, so re-bending of the legs following the dip & drive is considered a "no rep."  That, friends, is called a "push jerk" - a fine movement indeed, but not one that Betty would like to see during her workout.
